What is lexis?

The second
unit was about lexis. I found
very interesting to revise some topics which I have almost forgotten. Thus, the
most relevant information was the one related to the relationships between
words. I liked to check this part of the unit because I could realize that if I teach my students vocabulary I can use
this classification to make them the words more memorable. For example: I can
introduce family members making students realice that all of this words are
part of a lexical set. In
addition, it is important to teach vocabulary in context because the students can guess the meaning of a word
looking at the rest of the sentence. Moreover, we have to consider that words
can occur together in collocations, idioms, chunks, compound
nouns. Finally, we have to mention that students need a lot of
activities and exercises to consolidate the knowledge, so we can teach them
some synonyms, antonyms and so on.

Daniela,
ResponderEliminarYour idea for family members topic is great. I have to add that we have to be sure that the new lexicon students acquire is meaningful and useful. That means offer students lexicon that they can use most of the time so then Ss can use new words and increment their knowledge.
